Hula Competition Comes to Utah

Hey everyone, yup it finally happened! There is going to be a hula competition here in Utah, March 2009 and I have told the organizers that I would like our halau to compete. Right now we are still waiting for the details and I will share more information with all of you as it unfolds. Because we have a few girls whose ages are bordering "wahine" division, we won't know who will be competing in each category. However, I would like to announce that I have asked Miss Jessica Wynn Hewlett to compete as our Keiki soloist. Congrats Jess!

Girl Scout Camp a Success!

I want to take this oppurtunity to Thank everyone that came out for this activity. It was a lot of work, but turned out very well. Thank you to Sandy and Jessica for giving us the oppurtunity to share our love for the Pacific Island cultures with so many. Thank you also to Joanne, Kelti, Nani and Morgan for being there both days and Dawn for coming out to support us on Wednesday. Also, I want to thank Kelti, Jessica and Makayla for dancing at the Luau and I want to give a special Mahalo to my little ones, who stole the show. Breanna, Nani, Morgan, Shalia and Kennan, you girls rocked! Thank you all so much!

Rehearsal Updates- June 19th & 26th

Aloha everyone...just a friendly reminder that since we have a show this Thursday (6/19), there will be NO regularly scheduled practice. Those of you who are available to help us with this Luau performance please contact me immediately. Thank you.
Also, next week Thursday, June 26th, will be a combined 1 hour rehearsal. All classes (both the Lokelani and Lehua classes) will practice from 1pm to 2pm. Parents, please schedule your pick ups accordingly. Also, just a friendly reminder that Tuition is also due on Thursday 6/26.

Side note: Committed Haumana

Parents wondering how I come up with "committed haumana" on various activities...simple, your haumana (student) has told me that they are available and will be attending. If you should find that they have committed themselves to a performance or trip without your knowledge or if they will not be available for a performance or trip due to schedule conflicts, please notify me immediately via email, comment on this blogsite or phone. Otherwise, all haumana who have committed to a performance or trip are required to be in attendance. Mahalo

E Hula Mau Hula Competition Update

There has been an overwhelming response to attend this years E Hula Mau Hula competition Aug. 29th- 31st (Labor Day Weekend) at the Long Beach Convention Center. Committed haumana are: Hilary, Jessica, Rachel, Kelti, Nani, Kareamy and Shalia. At this time, I am working on the exact details of the trip and the exact cost. If you are interested in attending, please email me ASAP, so we can put final numbers together.

Lehi Rodeo Days Parade

We have been invited to participate again in the Lehi Rodeo Days Parade. However, as a "dancing group" we are required to walk. Because of this rule, I have decided that we NOT participate this year. Mahalo

Girl Scouts of America Day Camp 2008

We are doing the Girl Scouts of America Day Camp on the following dates. The schedule is as follows:
Tuesday, June 17th, 9am- 3pm
Wednesday, June 18th, 9am- 3pm
Thursday, June 19th, 6pm- 8:30pm
The camp will be held at Heritage Park, 4450 W. Cedar Hills Drive in Cedar Hills.
If you are available, please come and give of your time. Parents help are also greatly needed and appreciated. Mahalo

UPDATE (as of 6/5): Classes to be taught at this 3 day event are:
Tuesday- Lei making, Dance- Hukilau; Tiki bookmarks, Tongan game; Tahitian Headdress, Dance- Otea.
Wednesday- Island Flip Flops, Language puzzle; Konane, Polynesian Tattoos, Dance- Lapalapa; Poiballs, Tititorea (stick game)
Thursday- All Haumana are requested to perform for the Luau.

Show- June 16th

We have a show Monday, June 16th at 7pm at the Knight- Magnum building, BYU Provo Campus. This performance will be for the BYU Folk Dance Camp. It is a 20 min. performance and all haumana (students) are requested to perform. Please let me know if your haumana is available to perform. Also, due to high gas prices I'm asking that everyone NOT drive individually. I would rather there be 2 parents that can carpool the girls to and from Provo. Any parents willing to carpool, please let me know. Mahalo.

UPDATE (as of 6/5): Haumana committed to performing are: Jessica, Rachel, Kelti, Brianna, Shalia, Nani & Morgan. I need more of the older girls to come. If you are available, please let me know.
Call time: 6pm at the Lehi Arts Center for carpool to Provo. Dress: Blue shirt and blue skirt Hair: low bun with white flowers. Show Line-up: Kawika, Me Kanani A'o Kaupo, Not Pau, Hawaiian War Chant, Pearly Shells, That's the Hawaiian in Me.

Summer 2008 Class Times

Thursdays, 1pm to 2pm- Lehua class (little ones)
Thursdays, 1pm to 3pm- Lokelani class (older girls)

E Hula Mau Hula Competition

Aloha parents....I am sending out this quick email to see if any of you are interested in going to this years E Hula Mau Hula competition (as spectators) in Long Beach, California. It will be held Friday, August 29th thru Sunday, August 31st (Labor Day Weekend). The cost for the competition is $17 per day. I was thinking about attending only Friday and Saturday.
